Château d’Angludet | Margaux Bordeaux

2001

The Sichel family home and vineyard at d'Angludet in Margaux receives very special loving care and attention from the owners of Château Palmer and other vineyards—and produces wonderful wines from aged vines. The terroir at d'Angludet is why Bordeaux is centre of the fine wine industry—and always will be. Margaux normally produces more delicate and scented wines than its more northerly neighbours in the Médoc—and 2001 is a good, rich vintage, just beginning to drink really well now. This is a firm favourite of all of ours.

The Press
'A sleeper of the vintage, this excellent offering possesses a deep ruby/purple color as well as a sweet nose of melted asphalt, cedar wood, black currants, gravel, and tar. There is plenty of well-integrated tannin along with surprising size, richness, and aging potential (particularly for a Cru Bourgeois). Anticipated maturity: 2006-2015.' —Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

'Angludet is the very model of what used to be called a Cru Bourgeois...the wine lives on as an exemplary classic Bordeaux that once can actually afford to drink' —Neil Beckett, 1001 Wines You Must Try Before You Die, June 2008
Our tasting notes
Purple and very clear with a fully developed fruit driven nose. Rich, delicate Margaux fruit with a hint of chocolate—not overly concentrated. Approaching if not arrived at full maturity. Great for drinking now and over the next 2-3 years.

About Bordeaux
Since Roman times the world's largest and most famous wine region—the Latin poet Ausonius had a vineyard here, hence Château Ausone.

However the most famous Grands Crus represent just 5% of the total production; there are more than 5000 châteaux and many hundreds of communal wines. The 1855 classification of Grands Crus and Crus Bourgeois is no longer an entirely reliable guide, with some Crus Bourgois wines clearly of classed growth quality and vice versa. Most recently some 70 Crus Bourgeois have been declassified, with some suing.

2001 was an excellent ripe vintage in Bordeaux and in particular in Margaux where the wines are highly scented and ripe.
