Château d’Argadens | Bordeaux Superieur

2004

Superb value drinking claret from the Sichel family, owners of Château d'Angludet and Château Palmer. The wine shows amazing complexity and character for a Bordeaux costing less than £10. Very classy claret.

The Press
‘This tasty, contemporary Sichel-owned Claret, whose lively, leafy, zesty blackcurrant and plum-laden fruit is a good Bordeaux buy.’— Jane Macquitty, The Times

‘This 55 per cent Merlot, 45 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon Bordeaux Supérieur is exceptional value. Full of complex blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, gentle tannins and rounded off by a smooth, silky finish, it is a delight now, but will certainly keep for later.’—Jonathan Ray, The Daily Telegraph, June 2009
Our tasting notes
Dark brooding red with excellent fruit on the nose. Good complex berry fruit structure and very easy drinking. Really well made, good value Bordeaux. Nicely mature and will continue drinking well for several years.

About Château d’Argadens
In 2002 Château d’Argadens was bought by the Sichel Family—the owners of Château Palmer, the most famous of the Super Seconds, and Château d’Angludet, a consistently superb Cru Bourgeois. Their aim was to produce a wine that would become the benchmark within the vast Bordeaux appellation and as such they have invested heavily in a vast renovation programme. The Sichels immediately reaped the rewards of their efforts, when the first vintage of Château d’Argadens was awarded Le Concours des Grands Vins de France in the top French wine competition in Mâcon.
