Boirà | Sangiovese

2008

A wonderful totally organic Sangiovese from master wine maker Carlo Volpi, the producer of our organic Pinot Grigio. A fruit-driven, refreshing summer red with bags of flavour. Highly drinkable and really well made. As close as Italy gets to good inexpensive red burgundy. Tremendous value.

Our tasting notes
Bright red wine, almost Pinot Noir in colour, with rich burnt fruit flavours. Luscious well-balanced pure red wine with good minerality. A class example of what really good organic red wine should taste like—it feels very good—and is. Perfect for lunch or those rare outdoor dinners.

About Marche
Marche is the eastern most point in the central belt of Italy running from Tuscany through Umbria to the Adriatic coast. Whilst sharing a similar topography and temperate climate with its neighbours to the west, Le Marche has in fact been one of the last regions in central Italy to realize its potential for excellent quality wines, but there is a lot of growing excitement. Many are convinced that this region is able to produce red wines that are more comparable to the famous Super-Tuscans from the Maremma on Italy’s opposite coast than they are to wines from Abruzzo, just to Le Marche’s north.

The red wines of Marche are based chiefly on Sangiovese or Montepulciano—sometimes blended, sometimes not. The most important are the DOCs of Rosso Piceno, which is dominated by Sangiovese, and Rosso Conero which is dominated by Montepulciano.
