Petit Figeac | Saint-Emilion Grand Cru
2006
A fabulous boutique St Emilion Grand Cru from the very heart of the Figeac plateau, bought by the Manancourt family in 2002 as most of the vineyard was in the middle of their renowned Château Figeac vineyard. The wine is now made at Château Figeac with the same skill, care and attention but in tiny quantities, with only 1000 cases being made in 2006, which in the producer's and our opinion is vastly superior to the 2005.
This is definitively not a second wine and is considered to be close behind the Grand Vin itself—at about a third of the price! Stunning wine now and remarkable value, it will continue to improve for at least another 7-10 years.

Our tasting notes
A nose of plums & damsons with a hedonistic musk—the palate is marked with smooth tannins, glycerous rich fruit and perfectly balanced acidity—and it has a 30 second finish! Superb in all respects.Wine data

About Château Figeac:
Château Figeac 1er Grand Cru Classé is one of the most important and largest St. Emilion estates, dating back at least as far as the 2nd century AD. It lies in the north-west of the appellation alongside Cheval Blanc in what’s known as the ‘Graves de Saint Emilion’. The gravelly soil in this part of the appellation means that Château Figeac uses completely different proportions of grape varieties to other St Emilion producers: 70% Cabernet (half Cabernet Franc, half Cabernet Sauvignon) and only 30% Merlot. This unusual blend of grape varieties explains why Figeac is often considered the "most Medoc of saint emilions". Figeac belonged to the same family for 500 years until the 19th Century when much of the estate was sold off. The current family bough it in 1892 and since 1947 it has been run by Thierry Manoncourt who has managed to buy back some of former parts of the estate.
