Margaux | Margaux Bordeaux

2005

NEW

Following on from the stunning Margaux 2004 we have bought a parcel of the 2005 of the same wine—declassified from one of the most famous Cru Classé in Margaux whose 2005 has been very highly rated by Robert Parker. 2005 is almost certainly the outstanding vintage of the last 30 years. This is very serious high class claret and at this price an unmissable bargain. It is very rich and hence drinking well already with another 20 years to go.

The Press
'This is what I will be drinking at Christmas...this is sensational value...it has the finesse and elegance one looks for in Margaux. Superb claret.'
Will Lyons, Scotland on Sunday, 16th November 2008
Our tasting notes
Intensely dark, brooding purple with aromas of black currants, plums and incense. A rich full bodied wine with weight and power—the embodiment of a classic Margaux that is already delicious and will just get better and better. A great example of the legendry 2005 vintage.
Wine data

About Margaux and the 2005 Vintage
Margaux is one of the most prestigious and characterful of the Haut-Medoc appellations. In the best vintages the major Châteaux in this region (the most famous being Château Margaux and Château Palmer) produce wines that combine a dark ruby colour, elegant structure and superb concentration with a silkiness and a floral bouquet that is not found elsewhere in Bordeaux.

2005 is undoubtedly one of the very best vintages that Bordeaux has produced in the last 100 years. Robert Parker gave the vintage in Margaux 98/100, with only 1982 coming close over the last 30 years, whilst Decanter Magazine described it as an ‘exceptional vintage’, awarding it 5 stars.
