Pauillac | AC Pauillac

2006

NEW

A stunning & exclusive parcel of declassified wine from one of Pauillac's greatest super-second growths whose vineyards border Chateau Latour from the very good and attractive 2006 vintage. Beautifully made, rich and already beginning to drink well, this is a wine that will grace any table as very high class Claret—at a fraction of the price its quality and origin would suggest. Why buy expensive names when you can drink this we all asked ourselves? Highly recommended by us all. Available also in Magnums.

The Press
'2006 was a leading Bordeaux vintage and this very impressive keeper, a declassified claret from one of the most distinguished second-growth Pauillac's, whose vineyards abut those of first-growth Château Latour, is a real charmer. I loved its rich, ripe, cedary, beefy, flavours, and so will you — a very fancy claret at a fraction of the price that you would expect to pay for the grand vin. It's drinking well now, but put it away until 2016 for more of those cigar-box scents and tastes to develop.'—Jane MacQuitty, The Times

'Class in a Glass.' —Jonathan Ray, Daily Telegraph

'It is already lovely, but will keep for years, and is delicious now if you open it for two hours before serving. It is a wine for all of us who want to drink really great wine but can no longer afford the top Grand Crus.' —Simon Hoggart
Our tasting notes
Bright, dark and enticing with deep berry fruit aromas. Excellent structure, balance, length—a wine that has no expense spared in the making. Surprisingly forward already with a good 10 years ahead of it.

Notes on Pauillac & 2006 Vintage
Pauillac is the epi-centre of the Medoc and has more of the greatest Bordeaux Chateaux than any other appellation including 3 of the 5 first growths Latour, Lafite, Mouton Rothschild, and super seconds Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron, Pichon Lalande as well as rising stars Grand Puy Lacoste, Lynch Bages and Pontet Canet. Pauillac lies on the a gravel plateau and its wines are known for their rich mineral flavours—and, of course, unmatched class.

2006—Robert Parker writes about ”the very good vintage of 2006 Bordeaux”—”there are many fine wines especially from the top terroirs....the best tend to be very well balanced and whilst some are forward others require more patience given their tannic structures...for the top wines the longevity will certainly be 15-25 years...in the Medoc the most seriously run Chateaux have fashioned impeccably fine wines.”
