Château Pedesclaux
5th Growth, Pauillac, Bordeaux

2004

So successful has been our sales of Chateau Pedesclaux 2005 (ranked on a par with Mouton Rothschild 2005 by Decanter Magazine) that we have bought a small parcel of the 2004 vintage. Much the same structure and quality as the 2005 but more forward—and at a considerably lower price. As with the 2005 this is stunning value, and is for drinking now and over the next 5 years.

The Press
‘Fifth-growth Chateau Pedesclaux in a fine spot in northern Pauillac, and greatly rejuvernated in recent years by the Jugla family.....this almost 50-50 Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend, enhanced with a dash of Cabernet France, delivers some delicious ripe, gamey, blackcurranty fruit.’— Jane Macquitty, The Times
Our tasting notes
Deep purple with blackcurrant fruit flavours on the nose. Rich, concentrated and very drinkable now. Just about the perfect Pauillac for drinking now. A great advertisement for Bordeaux.
Wine data

About Château Pedesclaux
Château Pedesclaux lies on a chalky plateau overlooking the town of Pauillac and among such illustrious Châteaux as Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild and Pontet Canet. It was founded at the beginning of the 19th century by Mr. Urbain Pierre Pedesclaux, a well-known wine broker in Bordeaux, and was then classified in 1855 as a 5th Growth Grand Cru Classé. It is now in the hands of the Jugla family who, of late, have invested huge amounts of money and effort into the development of the château and the vines—the result now speaks for itself.

About the 2004 vintage in Bordeaux
Often eclipsed by the great 2005 vintage, the 2004s are rich wines with lots of berry fruit flavours that are developing rapidly. Most are drinkable now and will continue to improve for another five years.
