Eminently quaffable Claret from a great Bordeaux vintage at a great price. We know the wine well and it is just about the perfect all-rounder suitable for any occasion and drinkable with just about anything.

Our tasting notes

Bright and clear claret purple with a Merlot-driven berry fruit nose. The wine is soft with lots of good ripe fruit—not overly concentrated—just about the perfect balance. An excellent finish that begs another glass! Drinking perfectly now and a fine example of how good inexpensive Bordeaux can be.

About Bordeaux

Since Roman times the world's largest and most famous wine region—the Latin poet Ausonius had a vineyard here, hence Château Ausone.

However the most famous Grands Crus represent just 5% of the total production; there are more than 5000 châteaux and many hundreds of communal wines. The 1855 classification of Grands Crus and Crus Bourgeois is no longer an entirely reliable guide, with some Crus Bourgois wines clearly of classed growth quality and vice versa. Most recently some 70 Crus Bourgeois have been declassified, with some suing.

Minimum total order is 2 cases (24 bottles of 75cl equivalent) for the UK and 5 cases (60 bottles of 75cl equivalent) for Northern Ireland. We also offer a collection service for our French wines from just outside Calais, France (minimum of 5 cases and excluding mixed cases), at a per-bottle saving of £1.50 for wines and £2.00 for Champagne, and a per-case saving of £18 for wine, £24 per 12-case/£12 per 6-case for Champagne.
