The Press
‘From Vineyards Direct has also made up a Winter case we like a lot, consisting of a civilised three bottles each of a white Burgundy, Saint-Véran “Merloix” 2007; their own classic (St-Emilion) La Reserve Claret 2006; a red Bburgundy, Domaine Vincent Sauvestre Pinot Noir 2007; and a Syrah/Grenache Mas Carlot Cuvée Tradition Costières de Nîmes Rhône 2008. The price of £105 for the dozen bottles includes mainland delivery.’— Amy Devine, You, The Mail on Sunday. Our house claret selected from Saint Emilion vineyards and blended exclusively for us by larger than life Jonathan Maltus, producer of Château Teyssier and Le Dôme, one of Saint Emilion’s greatest (and most expensive) wines. Really superb everyday wine and is much more than just a normal claret. "Weepingly good at the price."—Bob Tyrer, The Sunday Times 3 bottles Mas Carlot Cuvée Tradition Costières de Nîmes, Rhône 2008
Wonderful wine from the Southern Rhône. Robert Parker says it all: 'this excellent estate continues to turn out superb bargain priced wines that consumers should seek out for relief from increasingly higher priced wines.' Stunning young fresh wine—if only all wine at this price level could be as good as this. 3 bottles Pinot Noir, Domaine Vincent Sauvestre, Burgundy 2007
Lovely Pinot Noir made from vines just outside the village of Pommard, one of the very best red Burgundy appellations. A far cry from the usual thin Pinot Noirs one normally finds for under £10, this is full bodied, rich and will be drinking very well for the next 4-5 years. Excellent value!
3 bottles Domaine Gonon, Mâcon-Villages 2008
A wonderful and affordable white Burgundy from one of the rising stars in the Mâcon, Jean-Christophe Gonon. Made from young vines running up the limestone and clay slopes of Vergisson, this wine has everything you would expect from a much more expensive Burgundy.
1 copy Everyman’s Library Edition of Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin’s The Physiology of Taste
A culinary classic on the joys of the table—written by the gourmand who so famously stated, “Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are”. First published in France in 1825 and continuously in print ever since, The Physiology of Taste is a historical, philosophical, and ultimately Epicurean collection of recipes, reflections, and anecdotes on everything and anything gastronomical.
